Hangzhou Controlled-Environment Plant Factory
A fully enclosed vertical farm outside Hangzhou producing premium strawberries year-round for high-end retail and gifting channels in the Yangtze River Delta.
Overview
Commissioned in 2025, the facility grows premium strawberries under full artificial lighting in a sealed, climate-controlled environment — no soil, no pesticides, no seasonality.
The operation runs 9,600 square metres of cultivation area across twelve growing levels, producing approximately 240 tonnes annually at a consistent Brix level that conventional field production cannot guarantee. Output is sold into premium supermarkets, fruit specialists and corporate gifting channels across Hangzhou, Shanghai and Suzhou, where seasonal imported fruit commands a substantial premium.
What attracted us was not the technology but the economics: a sealed facility converts electricity and labour into a branded food product with a predictable yield curve, pricing power at the high end, and a closed-loop water system that recovers over 90% of irrigation water. Dr. Lu, our agri-technology partner, chairs the operating company.
